Think Incognito mode keeps your browsing private? Not entirely. Until now, anything you copied – text, images, links – could stick around in Windows’ clipboard history or even sync across devices. That gap is finally closed.
Microsoft stepped in. Now, when you copy something in Chrome’s Incognito mode or Edge’s InPrivate mode, Windows won’t stash it. No clipboard history. No cloud sync. That means no surprises when hitting Windows Key + V later.
Incognito mode already blocked history, cookies, and autofill data. But if you copied sensitive info, Windows didn’t care. It saved it anyway. That’s not real privacy.
This fix ensures whatever you copy inside a private session ends there. Don’t use Edge? Google’s rolled it into Chrome now too. No clipboard leaks. No unintended syncing. Nice!
Microsoft also scrubbed another potential privacy slip – media previews. Normally, when playing a video in Chrome, Windows shows a preview with title and thumbnail. Not in Incognito. Now it just says, “A site is playing media.” No identifying details.
Great step forward, but there is a caveat: Incognito mode still won’t hide your activity from whatever hotspot you’re on, your ISP, or the websites you visit. It’s local privacy, not anonymity.
